Rabbi Richard G. Lampert
Beginning Hebrew reading
As the words of a song from the musical The Sound of Music goes “let’s start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start”, the same can be said for beginning Hebrew reading .
For a person beginning Hebrew reading it can be a daunting task. But, with all daunting tasks, it needs to be broken down into bite-size chunks. Like the saying goes “how do you eat an elephant? – one bite at a time!”. This can definitely be applied to students who are starting on their journey of Beginning Hebrew reading .
I think the first step is to determine why you want to embark on beginning Hebrew reading . It may be as simple as needing to learn to read Hebrew for a conversion process. Or it may be because you want to read the Hebrew text in the Torah. Regardless of the reason, once that has been established, you then need to establish how you are going go about beginning Hebrew reading , how will you learn the aleph beit and how to actually read? Will it be on zoom? (which in many places is the only way to learn something new these due to social distancing). If it is on zoom will be with a private tutor? Or in a group environment?
Another way for beginners to learn to read Hebrew is via a specially designed online program, such as Easy Learn Hebrew. Finally, the question to ask yourself, is when will you start learning to read Hebrew? Are you an evening person, or are you too tired to learn in the evenings? The “when” is as important the “why” and the “how”, because if do not have time in your week to sit down for a zoom class, then it might be necessary to have flexibility with an self-paced online program.

The Easy Learn Hebrew story began in 1986 when I became involved with Rabbi Lampert's teaching methods as a tutor in the 'Learn To Read Hebrew In One Day' course.
This course took students, who could not read a word of Hebrew at the beginning of the day, and by the end of the day they could read Hebrew, slowly, but correctly.
In 1999, I completed my Bachelor of Arts majoring in Hebrew, and, as part of my degree, spent a year in Israel studying Hebrew at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 2008, I became the primary instructor for the 'Learn To Read Hebrew In One Day' course.
Whilst conducting these face to face courses it occurred to me that this unique classroom-based method could be transferred to an online format to make it accessible to people all around the world, and so the Easy Learn Hebrew program was born!
The Easy Learn Hebrew program is the 'Learn To Read Hebrew In One Day' classroom course 'online', however offering much more in terms of being able to revise the 'classroom' content online repeatedly via the videos, take the online quizzes and being able to print out the associated hard copy learning materials as required.
I am very excited to make this program available and look forward to welcoming you as an online Easy Learn Hebrew student.
